Autonomous Fruit Harvesting

The global shortage of working hands and the growing need to produce food for the growing world population are leading the agriculture industry to adopt advanced technologies.

The venture that combines artificial intelligence, machine learning and image processing along with a sensitive arm capable of growing, cultivating and picking fresh fruit in orchards is intriguing and far-reaching. One most-challenging part of this planned device is its sophisticated gripper arm.

When the initiators of this ambitious project invited me to develop and design the gripper of this robotic arm – I realized how challenging it is to create here a unique interface between a robust machine and delicate fresh fruit ready for harvest.
